Description: Richard Linklater's
DAZED AND CONFUSED takes a hysterical, nostalgic
cross-clique look at high school
social development. On the last day of school in May 1976,
students at a suburban Texas high
school wait, lackadaisically, for classes to end. The
restless almost-seniors--an eclectic
group of stone-heads, fraternal jocks, and snobby
sorority girls--can't wait to haze
the incoming freshman, an annual event as harrowing for
freshman boys as it is humiliating
for girls. Amidst this teenage wasteland of drugs, partying,
and rock and roll is football star
Pink (Jason London), who saves scrawny pre-frosh Mitch
(Wiley Wiggins) from being paddled
to oblivion by upper-classmates. But Pink has his own
battles: he's struggling over the
head coach's demand that football players sign a pledge to
abstain from sex and all psychoactive
substances. |

WIDE SCREEN - WILL PLAY ON REGULAR
TV OR WIDE-SCREEN
Starring: Tucker, Chris Cube,
Ice Long, Nia King, Regina Mac, Bernie Witherspoon,
John Lister, Tiny Horsford,
Anna Maria Parker, Paula Jai Love, Faizon Means, Angela
Directing: Gray, F. Gary
Rating: R (MPAA)

Notes: Widescreen Special Edition
Description: Thoroughly charming
and totally hilarious day-in-the-life comedy in which
co-writer Ice Cube plays the stoic
Craig opposite Chris Tucker's Smokey, a brilliantly
rendered hyperactive marijuana
enthusiast. The two twentysomethings, Craig recently
wrongly fired and Smokey terminally
slacking and scamming, barely make it through one
highly eventful day. Eloquent commentary
on themes like community, family, friendship, and
violence is seamlessly blended
with lighter treatments of young romance, bathroom
emergencies, nosy neighbors and
much more. Casually impeccable performances by the
entire cast make this film a standout. |

THINGS ARE TOUGH
ALL OVER (VHS) $9.95
CHEECH & CHONG
Starring: Chong, Tommy Marin,
Cheech Marin, Rikki Fiddis, Shelby
Directing: Avildsen, Tom
Rating: R (MPAA)
Run Time: 92 minutes
Description: In this, their fourth
film, Cheech & Chong play dual roles. The boys play
Arabian brothers Prince Habib (Tommy
Chong) and Mr. Slyman (Cheech Marin), who hire the
"real" Cheech and Chong to drive
a car--filled with 5 million dollars--from Chicago to Las
Vegas. Needless to say, the trip
is not uneventful. After the boneheaded boys sell pieces of
the car to make the trip, their
employers want to kill them! Slightly lighter on the marijuana
humor than their previous efforts,
THINGS ARE TOUGH ALL OVER is also regarded by many
fans as one of the dopey duo's
best screen efforts. |
